Friday Awesomeness: MishMash

No real theme this week, just some various visual awesomeness. Enjoy.

Human Interface by Multitouch Barcelona
Rather interesting idea. Can’t see this working out any other way than for some sort of installation, but the rather DIY, tactice UI is pretty interesting.

Hamster Powered

hamsterGizmodo shows off some awesome decals one can place around one’s house to make it appear that it’s being powered by hamsters…and such. Check out the gallery for three others.

Type Tuesday: FESTYPE

silentnight
Before & After went hunting for a neat Christmas-y typeface. They found Aeronaut. Aeronaut does something pretty cool: it includes two faces (Balloon + Parachute) that are visual embellishments purposed to overlay their base typeface and add visual interest to it. Before & After explains the “squiggles”:

Aeronaut is based on a writing style known as textualis, the most calligraphic form of blackletter. Its unusual adornments — pigtails, squiggles, “balloons” and “parachutes” — give it a light, candy-factory look, beautifully 19th-century, without the Gothic heaviness of classic blackletter type.

As Before & After points out: the fact that Aeronaut includes the squiggles as a separate typeface means its incredible easy to set up the type and the squiggles in two different color. Go nuts, typenerds.

Poster: Weak Points by Olly Moss.

gottacatchprintfinal This awesome poster was created by Olly Moss (who I’m now convinced is infallible and can do no wrong) for the podcast A Life Well Wasted. Olly has a habit of taking videogame visuals and making them all sorts of awesome. Check out some more of his work at his flickr page.

Goodbye November, hello December.

Infographic: Movie Character Interactions

movie_narrative_charts_large
Sometimes XKCD is a nice collection of little stick figures saying humorous things, and sometimes the creator goes crazy and diagrams out the character interactions of several popular movies. Happy Thanksgiving all!

Infographic: Superhero Movies

superheromoviePretty neat little/large infographic done by KoldKast showing different information pertaining to the release of various superhero movies. It’s a little visually chaotic, but definitely does a good job of presenting a lot of information as well as some interesting facts.

Type Tuesday: Album Art Goodness

45typedesigns Next Day Flyers has blogged a neat collection of album art comprised mostly of typography. Examples include this awesome cover by Comunicom. (Speaking of which, Communicom has its own sweet collection of album art here.) Therein you’ll find some of the coolest album typography…and also some of the worst. It’s quite a mixed bag, but it’s worth sorting through the gravel to find the gems.

Hyperrealism Sculpture Eyecandy

hyperreal Got this passed on from a Mr. Stephen Carter. Pretty amazing sculptures. I was able to see one of these hyperrealistic pieces at the Denver Art Museum. I was afraid to go near it because I was positive it would start moving, and my reaction would be filmed for some hack artist’s YouTube video. If anyone wants to take that idea and run with it, be my guest.

Post-Apocalyptica

aqualta
Some neat work from Studio Lindfors depicting civilization after some sort of Apoca-flood. Check out their site for more work or this flickr page for the rest of the images.
