You know those boarding passes you get at the airport that look like they’ve printed from an early 80s printer? Tyler Thompson (CD at Squarespace) decided he’d do something about it. While the first couple tries were ultimately hindered by the restrictions of boarding pass printing (i.e. thermal printers), there is some interesting food for thought within his post on the matter.
Pop-Up Lunch is a movement/blog started by Alexandra Pulver as an attempt to transform non-traditional public spaces (mainly sidewalks) into places to eat lunch. This is mainly done through portable or permanent “mobile eating tools.” Pretty great ideas abound on the blog, including the Pop-Up Lunchbox, a food-carrying receptacle that can transform into a plate at lunchtime. Alexandra has a lot of other awesome ideas (magnetic coffee cup holder anyone?) that are totally worth checking out.
I could care less about Sports Illustrated, but this is so unbelievably hot. I am excited to see where this goes. (Do yourself a favor and watch the video @ full res.)
The Amatoya is a concept ATV from designer Liam Ferguson aimed at helping fight fires. While apparently most existing firefighting scout vehicles are modded Toyota Landcruisers that pack 130 gallons, this Amatoya can apparently rock 475 gallons (and a 105 gallon water tank). I wonder how long it will be before those Super Soakers are replaced with a couple guns that shoot bullets.
No real theme this week, just some various visual awesomeness. Enjoy.

Rather interesting idea. Can’t see this working out any other way than for some sort of installation, but the rather DIY, tactice UI is pretty interesting.
Gizmodo shows off some awesome decals one can place around one’s house to make it appear that it’s being powered by hamsters…and such. Check out the gallery for three others.
Before & After went hunting for a neat Christmas-y typeface. They found Aeronaut. Aeronaut does something pretty cool: it includes two faces (Balloon + Parachute) that are visual embellishments purposed to overlay their base typeface and add visual interest to it. Before & After explains the “squiggles”:
Aeronaut is based on a writing style known as textualis, the most calligraphic form of blackletter. Its unusual adornments — pigtails, squiggles, “balloons” and “parachutes” — give it a light, candy-factory look, beautifully 19th-century, without the Gothic heaviness of classic blackletter type.
As Before & After points out: the fact that Aeronaut includes the squiggles as a separate typeface means its incredible easy to set up the type and the squiggles in two different color. Go nuts, typenerds.
This awesome poster was created by Olly Moss (who I’m now convinced is infallible and can do no wrong) for the podcast A Life Well Wasted. Olly has a habit of taking videogame visuals and making them all sorts of awesome. Check out some more of his work at his flickr page.
Sometimes XKCD is a nice collection of little stick figures saying humorous things, and sometimes the creator goes crazy and diagrams out the character interactions of several popular movies. Happy Thanksgiving all!
Pretty neat little/large infographic done by KoldKast showing different information pertaining to the release of various superhero movies. It’s a little visually chaotic, but definitely does a good job of presenting a lot of information as well as some interesting facts.
