The Art of Alex CF

Alex CF is an artist that I’ve discovered, forgotten about, and then rediscovered again multiple times. I’m not really even sure how to clarify his work, but I totally dig it.  Hit the jump for some more info and some of my favorite works.

The About page does a good job of explaining the concept of Alex CF’s artwork.

Hello, my name is Alex, i am a professional cryptozoological pseudo-scientific assemblage artist and illustrator, i create items and objects from a past that wasn’t; to fashion the things i wish existed in forgotten attics or secret rooms, dust covered relics of a time when the world was the same -but not quite, when creatures that defy our senses stalked the crevices of forgotten continents, an age of wonder and intrigue, of fear and trepidation.

My work also follows a narrative – each project is owned or acquired by fictional characters who inhabit a world almost like ours – but not quite. The 18th -19th century of my world was far more advanced in the field of genetics and biology, mapping the human genome in 1852.

I love how every piece is wrapped in its own narrative (which can be found on the respective work’s page) and so amazingly detailed. I seriously can’t comprehend how some of this stuff is created. I want to make my own, but wouldn’t even know where to start. Some of my favorite pieces: a severed dragon head, notes and specimens taken from The Lost World, a Martian botanical specimen, a taxadermied Triceratops, and notes and specimens from werewolf research.

Looks like he’s looking for representation in a gallery. I’d love to see a show comprising all of this stuff. Pictures and vlogs are cool, but I’m sure seeing it first-hand would be awesome. Getting to own a piece and actually leaf though pages of faux research and see the actual specimens would be even awesomer.

Also, his take on turtles of the ninja flavor is awesome.
