Photographs from the Mirror’s Edge
If you’ve been reading Straw Dog Design for a while you know the affinity I have for EA’s Mirror’s Edge. Well it looks like Savage Land Pictures over at Flickr decided to set up a Mirror’s Edge photo shoot. Interested in my thoughts on the final project? Hit the jump.
The creator obviously went out of his way to get great lighting, props, makeup, etc. However, I feel that in the end the essence of Mirror’s Edge really wasn’t captured. For some reason all the pictures are smacked with a crazy amount of contrast which makes the whole thing look rather greasy and gritty. There’s also a handful of pics of Faith holding guns which–although possible in the game–really isn’t at the heart of the philosophy behind Mirror’s Edge.
I would also argue that if he was planning on running some of the pics through Photoshop, he should have desaturated the environment at the same time. While it’s a neat exercise in bringing games into the real world and staging a movie-style photo shoot, I feel that ultimately it missed the mark. But, there’s a few of them that I feel are pretty spot on (like the one at the top of this post). Overall it’s a neat set of photos, so pop on over and check them out.
