A Video for Clients

I feel like there should be more of these, and every client should have to sit through them kind of like Driver’s Ed.

Designing the “Me Too” Message

Small editorial up over at Positive Space Blog about some recent “design wars” over instant coffee. There are some really interesting observations made (check out the comments as well), but I personally feel that the title is a bit off. Go read the article, and then hit the jump for my thoughts. Type Tuesday: Contests, Free Fonts, and Inspiration

Everyone have a good Monday off? Great. Because that means we get to plow right into Type Tuesday.

15 Fresh High-Quality Free Fonts. Smashing Mag always does a nice job of rounding up some great fonts. They do a much better job than people who hunt around for free fonts online in an effort to throw a huge list up on Digg. But I digress…

Gorgeous Examples of Floral Typography. Some neat examples, including Si Scott…and some people who have jumped on board his style. Anyone know how he does his stuff? I’ve always wondered if he sketches things out, or just have a large array of custom shapes he’s built in Illustrator. Anyone know more?

And lastly…A Web Type Layout contest. Customize Smashing Mags template, give it back to them, and win all sorts of things like type shirts, type pillows, or the awesome Typographic Desk Reference.

Frank Lloyd Wright 2.0

franklloydwrightlegoarchitecture2 How neat are these? Apparently The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation approached LEGO about doing these models and things took off. Looks like they’re being created in conjunction with the FLW Foundation, Brick Structures, and the new Lego Architecture brand. Two of the six planned Lego Architecture models are Falling Water and the Guggenheim Museum of New York. Hit the jump for a picture of the second model, as well as a melding of the worlds of Frank Lloyd Wright…and videogames. Read the rest of this entry »

55 Useful Online Generators

While I usually shy away from generators or any sort of canned design, this list seems like it could come in quite handy. Some of them are absolutely worthless (logo generators? gimmeabreak…). Some of the other generators help with thinks like ajax loading graphics, color combinations, background patterns, barcodes, error messages, and more.

Photographs from the Mirror’s Edge

Well it looks like Savage Land Pictures over at Flickr decided to set up a Mirror’s Edge photo shoot. Interested in my thoughts on the final project? Hit the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Friday Failure: Xe

xeNothing closes out a week like making fun of someone’s new branding. Long story short: Blackwater shot some people, thought that might be bad for business, and then decided to rebrand themselves (apparently) as an office building full of men who sell laser-printers. I mean really, that’s just some poor rebranding. What about that logo says solidity, security, etc.?
