Douglas TenNapel Makes Comics

Cool video of Doug TenNapel (creator of one of my favorite games/clay experiences of all time) inking comics for his new graphic novel Power Up. It’s cool to see artists still do it old school; definitely reminds the astute designer that it’s possible (and worth it) to work off of the computer.

Designercize: Location Layout: The Results

And thus ends Designercize II. Thanks to all who entered. Not as many as Album Amalgamation, but actually placing type within an image is more difficult than simply slapping it on there and calling it an alum cover. Check out the slideshow above, or link on over to the Flickr page for a closer look. Thus, the secret goal behind Designercize II. New Designercize tomorrow.

45 Free Design Templates

dvd-labelWhen I first saw the title of this post I thought it as canned design templates guaranteed to make the masses savvy designers, and I scoffed. Instead, it’s actually a small collection of pretty helpful templates including discs, DVD cases, and a…..WWE 2007 DVD cover template (Really? whyyy? What reason could that possibly have for being included…)

Stumbled on any other good templates? Link em in the comments.

50 Beautiful Snowboard Designs

boardsAwesome collection of 50 Beautiful Snowboard Designs from Web Designer Depot. Not sure if there’s actually 50, and I’m not sure if the top/bottom count as separate designs…but I guess in the name of visual beautification we can let that slide. :] Check out their site for the full collection.

A Fine Feathered Illusion

dduckCool optical illusion from a Donald Duck cover. For some reason I totally didn’t see it at first, and then the shadow clued me in. Also, there seems to be some sort of un-crackable code there on the right.

Glow in the Dark Dancing — Soon to Be Stolen

First off, watch this video of a Pi Kappa Alpha number from the Anchorsplash philanthropy at Virginia Tech. It’s cool, and although similar things have been done, it puts some new spins on it.

However, I’ve got to wonder how long it will take before… Read the rest of this entry »

Microsoft Presents: Your Life in 2019

Neat video from Microsoft who apparently does R&D (who knew?). Video contains some pretty neat ideas. One I really liked was the “invisible classroom wall” that appears to let kids from various countries communicate with and learn from each other using drawing, automatic translation, etc. One thing that irked me was the touch-capable boarding pass the lady has on the plane. Really, Microsoft? Apparently in Microsoft’s future all the trees we cut down to make room for solar panels to run all of this stuff that paper has become so expensive that it’s cheaper to give people “iPhone” boarding passes.

Timelapse CSS

Timelapse CSS (II) from Matthew Buchanan on Vimeo.

Pretty cool video showing off the application of CSS to a coded webpage. Really helps to visualize how exactly CSS takes boring old HTML and turns it into the new, snazzy stuff all the kids do cartwheels for.

This man is Hannah Montana.

hannahmontanaThe image you see here is the culmination of about 15 minutes of research. Who is this man? This man is Hannah Montana (and also Miley Cyrus). Matthew Gerrard is the writer/producer behind many High School Musical, Cheetah Girls, and–of course–Hannah/Miley songs. Why have I posted a picture of this man? Read on. Read the rest of this entry »
