Go Spec Yourself
GACK. I was getting ready to pre-write up a blog post about Go Spec Yourself Day , only to realize that I was already 3 hours officially past it. Drats. Anyhow, kudos to Bright Black for creating such a day and trying to raise awareness about spec work…but I’m also going to give them a thumbs down for not fully supporting their own holiday. It seems the purpose of the blog post was to have people blog about spec work (and thus link to Bright Black), put art in the Flickr group, follow the GSYD Twitter account, and then tell friends about GSYD (and link back to the original post).
That’s all well and good, but I would have liked to see a bit more information about spec work, why it sucks, as well as some tactics for dealing with it. I’m sure Aaron is an awesome guy, but at the moment GSYD seemed more purposed towards getting hits pointed at Bright Black instead of actually confronting spec work.
I guess that’s it for GSYD. I missed it. :\ I do, however, want to write a post about spec work soon, because every time I see a “logo contest” on Craig’s List, I want to crack some shins.
