Designercize II — Location Layout

Hot on the heels of the end of Round 1 — Round 2 is a go. This time we’re creating…something…pertaining to a random location somewhere on the globe. Instructions after the jump.

Designercize: Album Amalgamation: The Results

In the end, 25 results. Thanks to everyone who submitted something to the first Designercize. Check out the slideshow above, or hit up the Album Amalgamation flickr set to peruse at your leisure.

Hopefully this was a great experience for all. Some people got a nice creative workout. Some people emailed to say how much they learned to appreciate design. Stay tuned for a new Designercize to be posted tomorrow morning.

Because Everyone Loves Needles

3307454362_3f486b9830Harrison Krix made an awesome replica of the ADAM syringes from one of my favorite games of all time. If you’ve never experienced Bioshock, go out and nab it (you can pick it up for pretty cheap these days). The art direction alone will blow your mind (but it’s got a great concept and story behind it as well).

Check out his site for a look at the entire step-by-step process. For some reason I get a total kick out of these random, highly-detailed passion projects that people undertake. I suppose all that’s left now is a fully-functioning Big Daddy outfit.

Augmented Reality in YOUR Hands

I dig augmented reality. If you’ve got a webcam (works with Mac Books, so there goes your excuse) head over to GE’s new site, print off the special graphic, and then witness the awesomeness. Hit the jump for more augmented reality coolness. Read the rest of this entry »

Hot Wheels

swordfish-1

This motorcycle is awesome. I bet it feels like riding on the future. Another pic after the jump. I’ll admit: I can’t really comprehend the whole hub-less wheel thing, but that cycle is hot. Let it inspire your brain.  Read the rest of this entry »

You Don’t Know Black.

pantone-black-cd-logo

Caught a link to The Professional Designer’s Guide to using Black on Twitter a couple days back. Anytime I see the words “professional designer” online, I’ve found they’re usually tacked onto a collection of horrible Photoshop tutorials and I prepare a guffaw that I can let loose upon viewing them.

Water, Water, Everywhere

I like crazy concepts. I like architecture. But, I just don’t know if I can get behind this plan from Morris Architects to turn old oil rigs into luxury hotels

They apparently think they can turn the Gulf of Mexico into some sort of (sparsely populated) Dubai? Good luck with that. Dubai seems to be doing pretty well (read: it’s not doing well at all). Read the rest of this entry »

I’ll Take Stupidity for $200

retropepsi You’ve just spent lots and lots of money totally redoing your whole brand. What are you going to do next? Revert right back to to the vintage style of course. Seriously, the clowns in charge of Pepsi marketing right now need to be put in stocks somewhere so we can throw tomatoes at them. I am curious to try Pepsi made with real sugar. I kinda wonder what it will taste like. Apparently Snapple is doing the same thing. But seriously here folks: what in the name of sugary sweetness is going on? Snapple is owned by a completely different company (Dr. Pepper Snapple Group Inc. < Not making that up) than Pepsi. If it was Pepsi/Coca-Cola I would think the cola wars were back on. But, two companies making the same move this close together? I’ve got to wonder if there was recently a spike in High Fructose Corn Syrup prices. Perhaps these new campaigns are just marketing tricks to cover up companies snatching up shiploads of suddenly-now-really-cheap sugar. Goodbye, HFCS, my tastebuds will miss you.

These are the scenarios I imagine when I’m bored and thinking about the soft drink industry.
